5S visit Kentwell

On Wednesday 19th June Year 5 spent a wonderful day at Kentwell Tudor House.

We took part in a Tudor re-enactment dressed as Tudor peasants and learnt how Tudors lived.

We were all very excited as we passed through the time tunnel and entered Tudor times!

We are now writing a recount of our day!

Our visit to the Tate Gallery!

Year 5 went on a trip yesterday to the Tate Modern and Globe theatre.

The topic for the whole school, this summer, is 'What lies Beneath'.
We have been discussing the 150th anniversary of the London underground system so it was good to travel by underground to St. Pauls. Then we went across the Millennium Bridge and visited the Tate Modern.

The children sketched sculptures there. After lunch we walked along the Thames and sat down to sketch the Globe theatre. The weather was fabulous and the South Bank was crowded. Some passers by commented on the children's drawings - how good they were!

Art Week - William Morris Design

Class 5S have been working with an artist this week. We have been looking at William Morris designs and using our environmental area to draw designs for 2 large wall hangings. Some children are using the designs to make fabric leaves and flowers which will be attached to the hangings!

Here are a few photos of us in action!....

Christmas Carols

We have been practising very hard this Christmas with our singing. We sang Christmas Carols at the School Christmas Fayre. We had lots of parents watching us. There were lots of things to buy at the Fayre.

Also this term we went to the Redhouse Restaurant where we sang Christmas Carols for everyone that came into the restaurant. We were given lunch at the restaurant.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Class 5S!

Victorians

In Year 4 we are learning about the Victorians, in particular the life of a poor working Victorian Child. We have been reading non fiction books and studied historical sources of evidence, which show the poor working conditions within a workhouse, factory and coal mine. We have used these sources of evidence to help us with our creative writing.
Year 4 have also taken part in a drama day run by Redbridge Drama Centre. We imagined that we were poor Victorian Children working in the workhouse. This experience also helped us to write a diary.
We have  been reading and studying Oliver Twist which we have based our school production on 'Olivia'.

Here we are at our Drama Day:

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

This term in 3K we have been learning RE. We have been studying all about Christians! As a class we looked at some bible stories. We have been looking at the parable of the mustard seed. This is a little bit about the parable: basically its about when you plant a seed it gets bigger. So if you start with something small it always get bigger like a seed when it grows. This is how the parable goes:
"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches"

After that we made a bookmark and put cress seeds in and laminated them so the seeds wouldn’t fall out. It was such good fun and we were learning about peoples religions too.

The Egyptians

Welcome to our blog. Did you know that year 3 have been learning about Egyptians and that Egypt is in Africa. Also it has the longest river which is called the river Nile.
The story of ancient Egypt has survived for thousands of years. Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations of the past. The monuments and tombs of their Pharaohs continue to stand intact today, some 4,000 years later!
Please take a look at the photos below:
